Your dog loves the attention, we’re sure of it. So any free time you have on your hand, spend it with them. It could be something as simple as throwing a ball around the backyard that they could catch or something as elaborate as taking them to be groomed. Your goal at the end of the day is to take care of them and make them feel loved.
To help you plan the activities ahead, here are 8 ways you can spend time with your dog.
Get Some Exercise
Just like you need to workout to stay in shape, your furry does too. They too need to go on a walk, run across the park until they get tired. It’s just the start of the day and you already have something to do with your dog. Next time you go for a morning walk, take them along. It’s also a great way to introduce your dog to the people in your neighborhood, the places you visit often etc.
There are plenty of pet stores that allow you to bring your pet along. So when you’re out with your pup, choose to visit a store that wouldn’t mind a furry guest. You can take them around the store and let them choose the leash they like or the toy they want. And if they behave well, maybe you could pick up some of their favorite treats as well.
Go for a Walk
A walk around the block, across the street or at a nearby park, your dog probably loves going on walks. Combine this with the early morning workout or with the next way we’re about to discuss. The dog park!
Visit a Dog Park
This is the perfect place for you to take your dog to. They can meet other dogs, familiarize themselves with other breeds, make friends and play around. You can take a ball or a frisbee to play with your pup at the dog park. It is crucial to socialize your dog with other people and pets at an early age so they become accustomed to social interactions.
Arrange a Playdate
Maybe your friend has a new pup that you want to introduce to yours. Or maybe your pup has started interacting with another at the dog park. Now is the perfect time to use this opportunity and go on a double date. Invite your friend or the pet owner over to your place and ask them to bring their pup. While you interact with your human buddy, your pup’s got a friend too.
Play a Game
Play fetch, hide and seek or any random game that you can come up with. Your pup’s going to be excited nonetheless. Playing games with your dog is also a sure way to keep them up and running, keeping them physically and mentally stimulated.
Visit a Nursing Home or Hospital
Visiting a nursing home might be a great initiative if your dog enjoys attention from strangers. The people living in these homes have limited interactions with outsiders, let alone pets. So maybe, as you make your visit, you are able to help some people here feel happy and loved. Those who once owned a dog but no longer have the choice to look after them, might appreciate this gesture from you. And who knows, you might end up becoming a regular at this place too.
Let Your Dog Just Be a Dog
At the end of the day, your dog isn’t your companion for tea parties or the like. It is crucial to let your dog do what they want, so they can roam freely and do what feels right to their nature. If you’re used to keeping your dog on a leash, let them go every once in a while. While you answer a quiz like “what celebrity do I look like”, let your dog loose in the backyard to do what they deem fit.
There are hundreds of other ways for you to spend time with your pup. All you need to do is realize what your dog wants from you and then deliver.
